Flying In To Gaston's

Gaston's has a 3,200' x 55' sod runway - oriented 6/24. Field elevation is 479'. Traffic is generally landing on 24 and taking off on 6, so be on your toes and on the radio (122.8).

The trees guarding the east end of the runway (see the videos) aren't a factor for most aircraft, but they do get your attention the first few times you land here.

On the takeoff roll there is a hill which appears to be at the end of the runway, but it's more than a half mile away. Most departing aircraft, especially on hot days, will make a right turn after departure and follow the river to gain altitude. This is an acceptable departure but take care to watch for arriving traffic.
In case you missed it in the photo above, the high power lines west of the runway are the reason for the one-way traffic here. Unless the wind is very strong, plan on landing to the west and departing to the east.

Gaston's is not a difficult strip come into or get out of, just listen up on 122.8 coming and going.

If you'd like for a CFI or an experienced pilot to fly in to Gason's with you for the first time, be sure to include that request on your sign in form, along with when you plan to arrive at one of the outlying airports. We'll arrange to have someone meet you and fly in with you to Gaston's.
